RVBY, KATE LOMAS, MAKE FRIENDS and DISKOPUNK bring a sense of nostalgia to FUNNEL PRESENTS

While the outside world was sleeping, every hipster in a five-mile radius of Shoreditch was jamming it out to the electro-indie pop gig that took over the live room above The Old Blue Last. As part of Funnel Presents upcoming wave makers series, four of the best indie acts played to a sold-out crowd.

Kate Lomas rocked it out for the girls in the club. Her captivating performance had the crowd enchanted as the sultry sad indie pop music flowed hypnotically through the sound system. Wolf whistles, cheering and hollering carried the Bath-based newcomer through her performance of Tipsy. And the crowd joined in with the chorus of Drunk 2 U, former BBC Radio 1 track of the week. Her high energy performance on the tiny stage had the mostly millennial crowd floating around trying to claim their last pieces of freedom.

Despite it being a school night, the Bristol-based band, Make Friends had the place violently rocking back and forth as they jammed it out on stage. The place heaved with a sense of nostalgia as they played Drop Naked and Ellie.

Their aesthetic of boxy oversized tee’s tucked into dark wash jeans, ankle high sports socks and vintage Nike’s brought the indie scene back to life. It was like witnessing your neighbours' kids jam session. Only they were actually good.

Each strum of their electric guitars had the floor vibrating as they swooshed their unkempt shoulder-length hair around. The place quickly transformed into a college house party in eighties America where band posters showed off your rebellion.

The night also saw 19-year-old RVBY and Swedish band Diskopunk who brought just as much atmosphere to the room. Housed in one of the best venues in London, the night reminded us of why live music will always be the greatest form of art. And that Indie pop will continue to thrive through generations.
